Young girls from across Mobile County are learning about manufacturing this week. Bishop State Community College, in partnership with Manufacture Alabama, is hosting the annual Girls Learning About Manufacturing (GLAM) summer camp for girls in grades 6-11.
The GLAM program was designed to create interest in careers in manufacturing amongst the next generation of women in the workforce. GLAM offers hands-on activities throughout the 3-day program, that gives female students an opportunity to connect with women who work in various sectors of the manufacturing industry and deepen their understanding of the types of opportunities that exist in the field.
Their day is split in half, the first half consisting of problem-solving and group activities, and the second half involves learning and exploring the manufacturing workforce by touring local industries including Austal, Flight Works Alabama, and Airbus.
GLAM is always free to students participating. For more information on their programs, including mentorship opportunities, visit their website here: https://girlslearningaboutmanufacturing.com/get-involved/
