Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2024 was delivered to the members of the Mobile City Council last week.
"There are many things to be excited about in the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2024," Mobile Mayor Mayor Sandy Stimpson said in a released statement. "The addition of 19,000 new residents is projected to bring in new revenues that will benefit ALL Mobilians. Recent changes to our Capital Improvement Program mean we'll now be distributing even more funding to address the infrastructure and community needs in all seven City Council districts. In addition to those changes, I am proud that this budget also includes a proposed 5 percent raise for City employees, which will help us take care of our staff members and remain competitive in the marketplace.
"The City of Mobile's financial position remains strong. As always, we plan to continue paying down debt while providing the best possible services to our citizens and maintaining a mandatory reserve equal to two months of our operating expenses. I want to thank our staff and specifically our finance team for the hard work that went into preparing this proposed budget for the coming fiscal year."
