MPRD hosting ‘Kids Fishing Clinic’ on August 17

The Mobile Parks and Recreation Department will host a first-of-its-kind fishing clinic for young Mobilians at Tricentennial Park later this month.

Through a partnership with the Alabama Deep Sea Rodeo, MPRD’s “Kids Fishing Clinic” is inviting children from Mobile between the ages of 5 and 15 to come to the park and learn the basics of fishing. Scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, this free event will cover some fishing basics, such as line casting, knot tying, managing equipment, local fish habitats and more.

Please note that this is a catch-and-release event, and participants will need to bring their own rod and reel. Bait will be provided, and fishing resources will be available for participants to take home. The event is free, but space is limited. You can register online today by clicking here.

For more information, contact Volunteer Coordinator Gary Thomas at gary.thomas@cityofmobile.org. Speaking of volunteers, MPD is still looking for volunteers to help with fishing instructions, registration and parking at the event. If you’d like to help, you can register by clicking here
